Intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting (IF) is a pattern of eating that alternates between periods of fasting (usually meaning consumption of water and sometimes low-calorie drinks such as black coffee and ballerina tea weight loss or evening primrose oil weight loss supplements) and non-fasting. There is evidence suggesting that intermittent fasting may have beneficial effects on the health and longevity of animals—including humans—that are similar to the effects of caloric restriction (CR).

Intermittent fasting is not a diet, it is considered more a pattern of eating and lifestyle almost. Its a way of scheduling your meals so that you can get the most out of them to benefit your personal goals. Many people use intermittent fasting for weight loss, having more energy, or it just works better with their lifestyle. 

To understand how intermittent fasting works we need to start with talking about and understanding the fed state and fasted state of your body. When your body is in a fed state it is digesting and absorbing food to use for energy, and it generally begins when you start eating until about three or five hours after. When your body is in a fed state it is hard for your body to burn fat efficiently because your insulin levels are higher. After your body is done with being in its fed state it goes into its absorptive state which is when your body isn’t processing a meal – the fasted state. When your body is in your fasted state, burning fat is a lot easier. 

Since your body doesn’t enter this “fasted state” until around 12 hours after we eat our last meal our bodies are rarely in this state of efficient fat burning. This is why when people intermittent fast, they don’t always need to change their diet or exercise routine to lose weight.
